Ardy Addresses Gen.G Dropping Game Changers Plans and Opening Saudi Office
In a candid video, Coach Ardy shed light on the circumstances surrounding Gen.G's decision to abandon its plans for a Game Changers roster, which was intended to be based in Saudi Arabia as part of their expansion in the region. Ardy, who was set to coach the team, expressed his disappointment but maintained a respectful tone toward Gen.G, emphasizing the challenges that led to the project's cancellation.
Gen.G’s Plans
According to Ardy, Gen.G had planned to establish a Game Changers team to coincide with the opening of their new office in Saudi Arabia. The initiative began taking shape in late August or early September, with Ardy tapped to transition from his role in Gen.G’s Academy program to head coach of the Game Changers roster. According to sources, The organization was in the process of signing prominent talents, including Hane, formerly of REIGNITE Lily, and PiggyKiki, a former Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player known for her time with Evil Geniuses fe.
What Went Wrong?
Despite months of preparation, the project ultimately fell through in late November due to a lack of sponsorship. Ardy revealed that Gen.G had been actively searching for a partner to support the team but was unable to secure one, leading to the abrupt cancellation of the roster plans.
Ardy admitted that the collapse of the project left both him and the players he had scouted in a difficult position. "During this time, I was scouting players, and we told multiple players, ‘We’re going to sign you. Don’t sign with anyone else.’ Now they’re out of opportunities," he explained.
Ardy’s Situation
Ardy also shared the personal impact of the situation. Having declined other offers and interviews based on assurances from Gen.G, he now finds himself without a contract. "I was told this was happening and was a certainty. Now I’m unemployed without a contract for absolutely no reason other than expectations changing last minute," he stated.
Despite the frustration, Ardy emphasized he holds no animosity toward Gen.G, acknowledging the effort the organization put into making the project a reality. "The folks over there were trying really hard to make this work. It’s just the nature of the situation that it all played out how it did," he said.
Future Aspirations
The video concluded on a hopeful note, with Ardy expressing his desire to continue his coaching career and prove his capabilities. "Hopefully, this isn’t the end of Coach Ardy," he said, leaving the door open for future opportunities in the competitive VALORANT scene.
Gen.G’s Saudi Expansion
While the Game Changers project has been shelved, Gen.G’s commitment to its Saudi Arabia office signals an ambition to expand its presence in the Middle East. However, the situation raises questions about the challenges of securing sustainable funding and support for esports initiatives in emerging markets.
