MACKO Esports, a prominent Italian organization, has officially suspended its League of Legends operations, citing challenges in collaboration and sustainability. In an official statement, CEO Antonio Todisco expressed gratitude to PG Esports and Riot Italy but admitted that “after numerous frictions, we find ourselves in the position of having to suspend our partnership.”

Throughout their five-year tenure, MACKO faced difficulties in meeting their goals and securing necessary support. Todisco emphasized that while this marks a hiatus, the organization remains committed to investing in League of Legends. “We are not stepping away but preparing to return stronger when conditions become favorable,” he assured fans.

The sudden shutdown left players blindsided. MACKO’s mid-laner, Mike (@FuruyLoL), shared his shock on social media:

“What happened yesterday still feels like a nightmare… 14:00 till 19:00 we are scrimming to prep for LIT. 23:00 we get told we have no job anymore for the rest of the year in MACKO. How in 4 hours life can completely change.”

Reactions from the esports community poured in. Lounet, Head of LoL at Gentle Mates, lamented the situation, stating, “La ligue italienne est officiellement dead… Hoping to see them in a real league next year. Strength to the players, the timing is complicated.”

MACKO’s team manager, Lilith, shared a heartfelt message:

“I don’t know how to describe my emotions. I started this journey with MACKO out of passion, not realizing it would become a family. The reality is tough and often unfair. Maybe we believed too much when others never did. But I will always carry this dream in my heart.”

MACKO Esports’ departure raises concerns about the future of the Italian League of Legends scene.

Whether the organization will return remains uncertain, but for now, its players and staff are left searching for new opportunities.
